Bidding for Items in the Police Impound?

It is mandated by law that that the police and other federal enforcement agencies on a periodic basis get rid of items that simply take up space. This happens when the owners of the merchandise cannot be located or for items that were brought in and were never claimed.

The items can be bought at a great discount to their true value. Some of these items include jewelry, cars, computers, sound system and a lot more. You can ask at your nearest police station when the next auction will be held.

Police auctions can be done in many ways. Normally a date will be set for the event and anyone who wants to come can attend and bid.

If the items are a bit expensive, then a handful of people who can afford it are invited. Such expensive items could be boats, airplanes and construction equipment.

The bidders at the auction can remain anonymous by simply examining the items then putting in a bid in a sealed envelope. Should the sealed bid win, the police will contact the winner for the deal to be finished.

As is usual at auction, the items are sold on an “as is” basis. You need to check that the properly meets your requirements before deciding to bid. There is no warranty should anything be wrong. Items cannot be exchanged and refunds are not allowed.

If you really want the item, include any costs of repair or restoration in your calculations of your maximum bid price. By checking on the market value of the item, you will know if it is worth bidding and where to set your maximum bid.

Payments for auctions can be in the form of cash, credit card or check. The winner also has to pay a sales tax in addition to their winning bid.

Police auctions have also gone high tech thanks to computers. Some law enforcement agencies can now get rid of the items online and all the bidder has to do is bid on it. The rules for such events are the same as a live auction and the highest bidder wins.

Buying at auctions takes money and setting a budget is a good idea. Before going to the auction, it is best to check all the items and to select a few potential buys. So, if you are outbid, there will be alternatives to bid on.

Looking for bargains at the police auction is not only for personal use. There are a few individuals who go there to buy and sell later at a higher price. This is done to make a little profit from a small venture.

If the bidder is able to get a lot of items, bringing a van or truck to remove the goods is a good idea. That way, it will only take one trip to bring the merchandise to a secure area.

Being a regular bidder during police auctions has its advantages. Whenever new items come up, you will be the first person that the auctioneering staff will inform.

A lot of things can be bought at police auctions at low prices. All it takes is a good eye for a bargain and the money to pay for it.
